1. Join Facebook groups
Facebook groups are an absolute goldmine when it comes to finding other business owners to collaborate with! In fact, there are many groups that exist with the sole purpose of connecting business owners who want to collaborate.
Here are some of my favourites:
2. Directories
There are ton of different directories out there that exist to help you find & receive collaboration opportunities. You can add yourselves to these directories to make it easy for people to find you and reach out for a potential collaboration, and you can also browse them yourself to find business owners that you would like to collaborate with.
If you are a client or student of mine, and you’re in my Client & Student Only Facebook Group - The Simple Marketing Insiders, then you will have access to my collaboration directory where you can easily add yourself and find collaboration opportunities for speaking opportunities, bundle events, JV webinars, guest expert trainings, accountability buddies, literally everything you can think of!
3. Reach out directly to potential collaborators with your pitch
When you’re pitching people, it could be someone you look up to and admire within your industry, a biz bestie, or simply someone you follow on social media. Or, it could be someone you have found through a Facebook group or directory.
Here are some tips to help you craft a great pitch:
1. Compile a ‘Pitch List’ of businesses with similar audiences, values & goals
When you’re collaborating with someone, you need to make sure you’re on the same page and that the collaboration will be mutually beneficial.
While you don’t necessarily want to collaborate with your direct competitor, it is important that you have a similar audience to the person you’re collaborating with. For example, if you’re a web designer, you might decide to collaborate with a copywriter - you have similar audiences but you’re not offering the same service, so you’re not in direct competition.
It’s also important that your values align because you are essentially promoting this person and their business to your audience - if you collaborate with someone and then find out that you don’t align with their values later on, that could be a sticky situation - so just make sure that you do your research first!
2. Get personal in your outreach
I always recommend spending a few weeks interacting with a potential collaborator on social media first, just so that when you reach out they recognise your name and don’t just cast your email aside as a random ‘cold pitch’.
When you do reach out with that initial email or DM, make sure to personalise it so that they don’t feel like they’re receiving a generic copy-and-paste pitch. Take some time to learn about them either on social media or from their website and bring this into your pitch in a way that you can connect to personally. Then, you can go on to introduce yourself, your collaboration idea and why it would be beneficial to them.
4. Join the waitlist for The Audience Growth Club
